I fucking need something to blog about, an apology.

Dear blog,

I am sorry i have neglected you over the last few months years. I would like to remind you though, that you are not the only blog in my life and those other blogs are much higher maintenance that you and this makes me a very busy man indeed. This is not your fault however, in fact, it is mine.  The truth is that I am a terrible writer (note my excessive and most likely incorrerct use of punctuation and short sentences), writing is not my thing and let’s face it, writing is a huge part of being a blogger. Even now, it has taken me an hour to get this far into this post and it’s only like 150 words or something.

I will try harder in the future to come up with interesting and educational blogs about no particular topics in particular, and when i can’t think about anything to blog about i will do what most other bloggers do and steal them from sites such as Engadget and Mashable. I might even install an auto blogging plugin!? Or is that too harsh? Probably too harsh.

Anyway! That’s it I guess, im sorry!

Love always,

Hugh

Where are you all coming from!?!

So i am wondering how all of the visitors are finding themselves on my blog? All of a sudden i am getting like 100 unique visits a day for some reason. All to different posts not just picolax.

If you read this can you tell me how you got here? and what you were looking for? i dont trust the stats tbh! huhuhu.

THANKS!

WordPress Stats Part 2

That’s better!

wordpress stats

A while ago the wordpress stats for the blog stopped working. I had no idea why and couldn’t get them to start tracking the stats again. So i just left it at that and kept using the (far too many) other stat plugins i have installed.

Just then i checked the stats again for another blog and decided to switch over to madcaow to see if anything was happening. To my surprise there was a few days last week that had been tracked fine! hmm!

Ok so i remembered what i did last week. I switched the theme back to K2! So it appears that this blogohblog theme kills the wordpress stats for some reason which is a bit annoying but anyway. So i might change back to k2 and try to mod it a tad so it doesn’t look so blue and boring!

Last month i had 1123 visitors

Hah! what in the world would that many people be doing to end up at my blog you wonder? Yes, well so do I! In fact for the last 3 months the number of visitors has increased by roughly 30% each month. If i break it down, really there is one post responsible for all this traffic: “AGENT” Picolax.

This has taught me two things. Firstly, if you are indeed out to get organic search engine traffic it is vital that you optimize your post with keywords and phrases. Secondly, it’s pretty easy to get traffic if you simply jump on a bandwagon or if you have your finger on the pulse.

The other big traffic magnets were the following, most popular at the top.

the pacific plastic soup
The Luck Factory
carlton draught – skytroop
The true history of Australia – AFL 150

Interestingly enough, The Schweppes: Burst post did not do as well as i would of expected seeing tho it was a very successful ad, even won a Gold Lion at Cannes this year. Obviously this is because i didn’t really SOE my blog post for that particular entry therefore i don’t rank at all well in Google.

Currently i have 5 other blogs running all in different niches and i’m experimenting a bit with “finger on the pulse” style posts. So basically what i am doing is checking the usual places like digg and stumbleupon and trying to mimic the most popular posts. With the picolax post it was a bit of a fluke and seeing tho this blog is one of the only places that forum post is archived it draws quite a bit of traffic. Imagine if that was for something with a few more searches per month! Currently there is only 11,500 results in google and it does not have enough search volume to show graphs in google trends! You can see the potential here.

Mostly the picolax traffic originates from forums, and mostly UK based. What i might do is edit the post to include localized names for the laxative and see what happens!

wordpress 2.6 is out eh

might upgrade.

might kill my blog.

might find out in a few mins.

blog SEO

I have made a few changes to the inner workings of the blog in order to see if it increases the amount of traffic i get. At the moment there are half a dozen posts that really draw the crowd in and i’m trying to figure out exactly what people are looking for and why they would end up on my blog.

So the permalinks have changed, installed a related posts plugin and also some Google trickery has been done on the back end. Will see how it goes!
